How extreme will GTA 6 in-game sex and violence be?

Cliff Notes – How extreme will GTA 6 in-game sex and violence be?

    • Increased Realism Raises Concerns: The enhanced graphics in GTA 6 may provoke backlash regarding its portrayal of violence, particularly if players can engage in rampage missions against realistic crowds.
    • Potential for Controversial Content: The inclusion of more explicit sexual content could lead to significant public debate, especially if Rockstar pushes boundaries beyond what has been seen in previous titles.
    • Ethical Implications of Gameplay: As the line between virtual and real becomes increasingly blurred, questions arise about the moral responsibilities of game developers in depicting violence and sexuality in a realistic manner.

GTA 6 – are all the old arguments going to return? (Rockstar Games)

The Monday letters page thinks a £75+ video game can be good value for money, as another reader tries to make sense of Doom’s storyline.

    Violent visuals

GTA 6 looks amazing and everything but one thing I’ve not seen discussed much is the possible backlash over its violence. I’m going to assume it’s the same basic level as the other games but not only do people look much more realistic in GTA 6 but there seems to be a lot more of them around in outdoors scenes.

Is GTA 6 still going to have rampage missions where you mow down as many people as possible? Even if it doesn’t is there going to be anything stopping you from doing that? I’m not taking a stance on it, at least until I see how they handle it, but if you can just let rip with a heavy machinegun, or whatever, into a crowd, that’s going to be pretty disturbing if it all looks and plays out realistically.

I don’t feel this has been an issue for games for a while now, as most have managed to not have that kind of opportunity in it or there’s no one in the world except bad guys. But GTA 6 could open up a whole new can of worms, and that’s before we find out how it handles sex. There’s a sort of sex scene in the second trailer but if Rockstar try anything more than that I can just imagine how the usual suspects are going to react.

The better the graphics get the harder these questions are to answer with a ‘it’s not real’. Where do you draw the line in terms of how real it looks?

    You have huge guts

I haven’t played Doom: The Dark Ages yet but I will agree I had no idea what was going on in Doom Eternal. The plot was so complicated but at the same time dumb and not interesting. Assuming it hasn’t changed, which it doesn’t sound like it has, I would agree that Doom needs to play up the comedy more.

Eternal doesn’t really take itself that serious but at the same time there’s nothing in it that’s really funny, unless you count collecting the little Funko Pop! style toys. That seems a big mistake for a game that doesn’t really have any interesting characters, including the main one.

I realise comedy is hard, but they could at least try. At a minimum they could just adapt the comic that ‘rip and tear’ comes from. It’s still the best thing associated with Doom that isn’t the games.

    Combat revolved

I’ve spent a good few hours this morning going through Halo: ODST and it is as good as ever. The gunplay, music, and setting is just second to none in the Halo games. I’ve played through all of them hundreds of times (literally) and there is always a new way to beat the Covenant thanks to the great AI.

I don’t mind it coming to the PlayStation 5 but I fear the remake is going to dumb it all down to appeal to the people who haven’t played Halo before. I still wish they would do a full remake of Halo 3, with all the cut levels included (there are fan made sequels that are great) .

Anyway, keep up the good work.

    GC: Thanks.

    Staying friendly

If it was any other company, I think support for the next generation Xbox would be very limited. They’ve had two disasters in a row, they’re currently downplaying the Xbox Series X/S, and the new console may be portable only.

But since it is Microsoft, and they’re so rich, are they going to be paying other publishers to get them to support them still? Apart from money I’m not sure what hold Microsoft really has over other companies now that their hardware is irrelevant. It’s definitely no kind of threat to be told you can’t publisher on Xbox consoles anymore.

I guess the promise of being on Game Pass is still there, but that’s not something bigger companies are going to care about, compared to indies. Maybe they’ll just keep doing it out of a sense of diplomacy though. No point burning any bridges, I guess.

    Cheap risk

    Just a recommendation here guys.

I bought Lost Words: Beyond The Page in the sale on Nintendo Switch for £1.19.

A simple story driven game with some nice puzzles, an interesting game mechanic, a great soundtrack and some incredibly voice-acting. The game certainly can’t be accused of not trying something different in terms of storyline and you would have to be a robot or have a heart made of stone to not let this tearjerker get to you.

Anyway, I highly recommend it at this price, and I think it still has a few days in the sale to go.

    Profit warning

I was wondering about a detail regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles on eBay that’s been puzzling me. New eBay policy is that sellers don’t get their money until two days after confirmed delivery, if tracked, and two weeks (I think) if not tracked. Does this mean that all the sold listings currently on eBay (thousands at the time of writing) have all been paid for by the scalped and won’t be received by the scalpers until June 7th at the earliest?

This would mean that eBay has a huge amount of money sitting in their business accounts for well over a month. No wonder they were reluctant to not accept items which clearly violated their own policies! I also wonder if there are a lot of angry scalpers out there who were unaware of this? Most of the completed listings are for about £450-500, plus a handful around £600.

This includes the eBay protection fee, which would be roughly £15, meaning that the majority would be making about £50-ish profit. Seems like a lot of hassle and outlay for such a small amount, along with the inherent risk you always take with delivery services (both receiving and sending out). I can’t believe that so many people have bothered doing this and the individual small gains hardly outweigh the strife caused by it. I would love to hear from an actual scalper and get their side of the story.

GC: There was a Reader’s Feature at the weekend, but they didn’t use eBay.

    The future refused to change

I knew the talk of a Chrono Trigger remake was too good to be true but I hope all the excitement over the possibility convinces Square Enix that people are interested. I will never understand why that game is so overlooked, as it’s by far my favourite 16-bit role-player. Heck, it’s probably my favourite of all-time.

I think the problem is that it came out so late in the SNES’s life, when the PS1 was already out in Japan. It was still a hit but nowhere near as big as it deserved. I think a HD-2D remake would be prefect and I would assume not that expensive. I really hope it happens.
    Hawkguy
PS: Speaking of amazing franchises that Square Enix ignores in favour of everything else, where is my NieR 3 annoucement?! Are they going to shadow drop it or something? Automata is over eight years old now!

    Hours of fun

I don’t want to sound like a shill for Nintendo but playing devil’s advocate, is paying £75 for games actually really that bad?

For example, over 10 years ago, I contributed to the Hot Topic of the week saying I had put in 974 hours on Test Drive Unlimited 2 over six years.

Back then, I paid about £22 for it second-hand and I haven’t done the maths but I’m pretty sure I got my money’s worth plus some.

In fact, I’ve recently started to regret I didn’t pay the £49.99 full price for it, such is the love I had for it, technical issues and cheesiness be damned.

I’ve also paid around £17.98 for Battlefield 1943 (on PlayStation 3 and Xbox One) and got many loved/hated hours out of it.

What I’m saying is if you’re playing a game for many years and still getting fun out of it, with their now even bigger game worlds and other things to discover or unlock, should it matter if it’s a bit more costly?

Having watching the last arc of Andor (which is amazing, seriously some of the best TV I’ve ever seen) I’m even more confused as to why Star Wars: Zero Company is set during the Clone Wars. An Andor era setting makes much more sense, given how many different agents and missions Luthen and Kleya have going on at the same time.
