Boss Vincent Kompany, said: ‘It was a quick turnaround for Harry. We were in Glasgow on Wednesday, you go again at the weekend and then had the game tonight.

Harry Kane speaks out after being subbed off during Bayern Munich’s victory over Celtic

Harry Kane revealed he would be undergoing a scan on a possible injury after being subbed off during Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory over Celtic.

The Champions League play-off game looked set for extra-time and possibly penalties when Celtic levelled the tie at 2-2 through Nicolas Kuhn.

There were fears Celtic would be overpowered by German giants Bayern at the Allianz Arena but if anything it was the Scots who created the best chances.

Extra-time was beckoning when Kuhn gave Celtic a deserved lead on the hour mark but Alphonso Davies bundled home a 94th-minute equaliser to break the visitors’ resistance and send Bayern through courtesy of a 3-2 win on aggregate.

Bayern look set to win the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany – moving eight points clear at the top of the table – but looked bereft of ideas against an impressive and resolute Celtic, with Kane taken off at half-time.

Kane had been an injury doubt for the game and both the England captain and Kompany confirmed his removal was due to fitness concerns.

The 31-year-old former Tottenham striker, who left the stadium with a noticeable limp, said: ‘We’ll have a scan tonight and then we’ll see. I’m not sure if I can play against Frankfurt on Sunday.’

Alphonso Davies’ late goal sent Bayern Munich through

Kompany, meanwhile, said: ‘It was a quick turnaround for Harry. We were in Glasgow on Wednesday, you go again at the weekend and then had the game tonight.

‘He gave us the thumbs-up this morning, he’s an experienced player and it’s an important game so we obviously fully trust his judgement.

‘But in the game he felt he wasn’t able to fully help the team anymore and of course in that moment we didn’t want to take the extra risk.

‘How long it’s going to be, if he’s injured or not, I don’t have any information right now other than he couldn’t continue in the second half.

‘He had a sensation, there wasn’t a moment in the game. The assessment tomorrow will give us more information.’

Vincent Kompany was relieved to get past Celtic

Kompany was relieved to progress in the Champions League and believes Bayern’s sluggish performance was a result of fixture congestion.

‘It was a hard-fought draw, I thought we had many chances in the second half to score two to three goals,’ he said.

‘The context is important, we spent a lot of energy in the past six days. In the end, we’re eight points ahead in the league and we’ve advanced to the next round in the Champions League. We now have some time to recover.

‘Of course, we always want to dominate and be much better than the opponent, especially here. But the result is always the most important thing.

‘We’ll learn from this game. As I said, we have to look at the context, we played too many games. We fought hard  three days ago in Leverkusen, and six days ago at Celtic Park to get the result that helped us today.’

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic pushed Bayern all the way

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers insisted he was ‘very proud’ of his team’s performance out in Germany and described Bayern Munich’s late goal as ‘cruel’.

‘I’m very proud of the performance. It what we always look for,’ he said. ‘To come to this arena and play with that confidence, without any fear, makes me very, very proud.

‘The cruel blow at the end makes it feel like a loss, but we’ve come here, drawn with Bayern and sadly it just wasn’t enough to get through in the tie.

‘We’ve come up against one of the favourites and we’ve ran them very, very close. Especially in their own back yard, there’s not many teams who come here and create those opportunities and play with that courage.

‘The takeaway is nothing but pride. We played with no fear, we were very good in our defensive organisation, but we also showed our courage to play football.’
