Jubilee, the Pope opened the holy door
ROME – Pope Francis opened the holy door of St. Peter’s. As the Pope opened the holy door he said: “Let’s raise our voices, hope is not quiet living”
The 88-year-old pontiff, who has recently been suffering from a cold, was pushed in a wheelchair up to the huge, ornate bronze door and knocked on it, before the doors opened.
In a ceremony watched on screens by thousands of faithful outside in St Peter’s Square, the Argentine pontiff went through the door followed by a procession, as the bells of the Vatican basilica rang out.
“Let’s raise our voices, hope is not quiet living”
“Haec porta Domini…”, this is the door of the Lord: following the ancient ritual marked by Latin texts, Pope Francis opened the holy door of St. Peter’s this evening, thus starting the jubilee of hope, which will conclude on January 6, 2026.
“Today there is so much desolation, let’s think about the wars, the children machine-gunned, the bombs on schools and hospitals”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri participate in the Christmas Eve mass
