Alejandro Garnacho faces competition from three Premier League stars after the Manchester United player was nominated for the 2024 Puskas award.
FIFA have revealed the 11-man shortlist for the Puskas award which recognises the best goals scored from last season.
Garnacho will no doubt be one of the favourites having been nominated for his spectacular overhead kick in United’s 3-0 win at Everton in November 2023.
Commentating on that match for Sky Sports, Red Devils legend Gary Neville said of the goal: ‘He can’t believe it, Garnacho. I can’t believe it!
‘I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium to see an overhead kick as good as that – and I was there for [Wayne] Rooney’s in the Manchester derby.
‘That was unbelievable. A magical, magical goal.’
Unsurprisingly, the strike was named Manchester United and Premier League Goal of the Season
Garnacho is however be up against tough competition, including three current Premier League players, most notably West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus.
The attacking midfielder scored a stunning solo goal during the 5-0 thrashing of Frieburg in the Europa League, having first picked the ball up deep in his own half.
Jaden Philogene, who joined Aston Villa from Hull last summer, is nominated for his strike against Rotherham were he nutmegged an opposing player before chipping the goalkeeper with a Rabona from a tight angle.
Paul Onuachu has never scored for Southampton but found the back of the net plenty of times on loan at Trabzonspor last season, including an awe-inspiring backheel flick against Konyaspor.
