Republicans regain control of the Senate, on course to win the House
The Republican Party has secured control of the U.S. Senate, flipping key seats in West Virginia, Ohio, and Montana. With these wins, Republicans are guaranteed at least 52 of the Senate’s 100 seats, though a few races remain undecided.
In West Virginia, Governor Jim Justice won the seat previously held by Democrat Joe Manchin. In Ohio, Bernie Moreno defeated incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown, and in Montana, Republican Tim Sheehy unseated long-serving Democrat Jon Tester.
Meanwhile, Republicans are also leading in the House of Representatives, with some races still to be called. If they gain control of both chambers of Congress and the presidency, Republicans would have significant leverage to push through their legislative priorities.
This marks the first time Republicans have held a Senate majority since 2018.
