Israel issues more evacuation orders in southern Lebanon, hospitals & health centres bombed

Israel has issued further evacuation orders to people in southern Lebanon that are outside the UN-declared buffer zone. The latest appears to signal a widening ground attack – which started earlier in the week.

The new orders come after a night of heavy airstrikes on the capital in Beirut. It has been reported that more than 10 consecutive airstrikes hit the capital in the early hours of Friday morning.

Israel claims to have struck around 200 Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, including weapons storage facilities and observation posts.

The fighting has forced nearly 1.2 million people to flee their homes in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the WHO says 28 health workers in Lebanon had been killed in the past day. WHO boss Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said three dozen health facilities closed in southern Lebanon and five hospitals in Beirut have been either partly or fully evacuated.

The Lebanese health minister said Israeli strikes that hit nine hospitals and 45 healthcare centres violate international law and treaties.

“International laws are clear in protecting these people — I mean, paramedics,” Firas Abiad said. “Who gave Israel the right to be the judge and the executioner at the same time?”
