A 16-year-old girl has been hit by a police car in east London.

The incident happened on Bow Road outside the Central Foundation Girls’ School after the police car hit the teen at 12.55pm this afternoon.

She is in hospital and her condition is unknown.

A local resident, who did not wish to be named, told Metro.co.uk that the area between Mile End Tube station and Central Foundation Girls’ School on Bow Road was tapped off.

They said: ‘Dozens of people had stopped to watch the commotion.

‘There were at least three Met Police cars at the scene.

‘There was definitely a sense of confusion about what had happened.’

A spokesperson for the Met said: ‘At about 12.55pm on Monday, September 16, a marked police vehicle was involved in a collision with a female pedestrian in Bow Road, Bow.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) was called and the female – aged 16 – was assessed by paramedics at the scene.’

‘She was taken to hospital by LAS for further assessment and we await an update on her condition.

‘The officers in the police vehicle were not injured.

‘The road remains closed while an investigation is carried out.

‘At the time of the collision, the police vehicle was on the way to an incident.

‘The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.’
