Daily Mirror – Amnesty cash row: Final insult

    September 13, 2024

Firms that sell zombie knives have raked in £350,000 from an amnesty despite supplying blades used in several murders, the Daily Mirror reports.

David Beckham is in Sweden for the funeral of former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson.

The latest from Strictly Come Dancing also makes the front page.

‘Zombie knives’ are only built to kill so why are we paying off the people who sell them?

A firm whose knives have been involved in several killings has “surrendered” more than 35,000 zombie-style weapons. Under the government scheme it will be paid £10 for each knife it hands over.

If taking these blades out of circulation saves just one life the cost could be seen as worth it. But it leaves a bad taste in the mouth that the company is being paid for weapons which should never have been on sale.

It has earned thousands of pounds from selling knives whose only purpose, as the police have pointed out, was to maim or kill.

Many will also question why compensation is being paid when it will soon be illegal to sell zombie-style blades and machetes in any case.

David Beckham’s touching gesture as he arrives for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s funeral

David Beckham immediately paid his respects to the family of Sven-Goran Eriksson ahead of the ex-England boss’ funeral.

The ceremony took place in Eriksson’s home town of Torsby in Sweden on Friday. Former Three Lions captain Beckham flew to the country via private jet earlier this week in order to be in attendance.

And upon arriving he immediately embraced Eriksson’s family ahead of the ceremony. After arriving at Fryksände church in a silver Mercedes people carrier, he walked over to Eriksson’s daughter Lina and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Once inside the church, Beckham was pictured hugging Sven’s ex-partner Nancy Dell’Olio on what promises to be a day of celebration for the beloved former manager.
