Daily Mirror – Hero mum saves baby in sea hell

    August 20, 2024

Among the details emerging from the yacht disaster, one of the most striking was the story of the British mum who saved her baby’s life – as the Daily Mirror reports.

Charlotte Golunski, 36, said: “For two seconds I lost my baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amid the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy. Many were screaming. Luckily the lifeboat inflated and 11 of us managed to get on board.”

Charlotte added: “I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning. It was all dark. In the water I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others.”

Elsewhere, a report on Taylor Swift meeting victims of the Southport stabbing is featured at the top of the paper.

Hero mum who saved baby in super yacht tragedy that left Mike Lynch and daughter missing

A British mum today told how she dramatically saved the life of her baby in a yachting accident which has left seven people feared dead.

Four Brits are still missing after their luxury £25m boat sank after being hit by a powerful tornado. One of those missing is a wealthy businessman dubbed “Britain’s Bill Gates.” Tycoon Mike Lynch is feared trapped in the wreckage of his superyacht which sank off the Sicily coast.

His wife Angela Bacares, 57, was one of the survivors. Their 18-year-old daughter Hannah is also missing. The mum who desperately held onto her one-year-old daughter told how she managed to clamber onboard a lifeboat with 10 other people as their boat capsized.

Taylor Swift meets girls injured in Southport stabbing at Wembley show in touching gesture

Taylor Swift met some of the children injured in the Southport stabbings at Wembley Stadium over the weekend.

Mums screamed in horror after several young girls were brutally attacked by a knifeman during a Swift-themed dance party in Southport on July 29, claiming the lives of three innocent children. The youngest was six-year-old Bebe King, who died along with seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine. Six other children were left in a critical condition.

As the Shake It Off singer returned to Wembley for more of her sold out Eras World Tour shows, the pop star met with some of the young survivors and their families before the concert.

It is believed that Swift reached out to the victims’ families of the Southport attack in private before she made her first UK Eras Tour appearance since the horrific death of the three children. Around 25 youngsters were believed to have been taking part in the event when the horror unfolded last month at the hypnobirthing centre, which runs kids clubs during the holidays allowing children to take part in dance and craft classes.

‘Mike Lynch among missing after luxury yacht sinks in Italy’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 20 August 2024.

As more details pour out regarding the luxury boat sinking off the coast of Sicily, the story has started to dominate the headlines around the world. In the UK, Tuesday’s front pages are dominated by yesterday’s news that the British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter are among the six people still missing.

There’s not much coverage of the story on the international front pages, but online – since the news of other prominent figures from banking and tech from around the world are among the missing – the story is becoming more international.

Away from the yacht sinking, a few UK papers feature showbiz and royal stories on the sidebar. A few of the papers lead on other domestic topics – mostly politics.

Last night’s Premier League draw between Leicester City and Spurs dominates the back pages.
