VP Kamala Harris arrives in Chicago for Democratic convention
Kamala Harris has arrived in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention (DNC), where she will be officially confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate. After a day of campaigning in Pennsylvania with her running mate, Tim Walz, Harris flew into O’Hare airport on Air Force Two.
Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, has seen close races in recent elections, with Donald Trump winning in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020. A CBS News poll shows Harris and Trump are currently tied in key swing states.
During a speech on Sunday, Harris indirectly criticised Trump, labelling him a “coward” for his divisive politics, while Trump, campaigning in Pennsylvania, called her a “lunatic” and boasted about his appearance.
Harris is expected to join President Biden on stage at the DNC, which will conclude with her primetime speech on Thursday after she formally accepts the party’s nomination. Security in Chicago is tight, with large pro-Palestinian protests anticipated during the four-day event.
