The story dominates media – in print and online – and much of the misinformation has been spread via social media.

News outlets – tabloids and broadsheets, regardless of political leanings, have slammed the violence from the far-right thugs.

Trending – Riots sweep UK in shameful violent scenes

Riots swept the country this weekend, bringing with it shameful scenes of violence and racism. Regardless of political leanings, the leading media organisations slam the violence – which has seen police officers injured, buildings and vechicles damaged and set one fire and the looting of shops.

The riots are in response to the killings of three young children last week and the spreading of misinformation online. There is no confirmation that the suspected killer has any known links to Islam or that the attack was religiously motivated.

Some critics are calling on social media – where much of the misinformation has spread to do more to protect conspiracies and lies spreading.

There are further calls for traditional media to stop stoking the flames of division and racism. The typical right-leaning tabloids – the Daily Mail, the Sun, as well as media such as GB News – have played a huge role in stiring up hate over many years.

Depite the heavy coverage of the violence – racist language, nazi saluting and checking vechicle to make sure the drivers were white and English – there has been anti-racism protesting and pro-immigrant demonstrators countering the racism.

Here’s just a few examples of Daily Mail headlines that have fanned the flames of hate and normalised Islamophobic and anti-migrant rhetoric #GMB pic.twitter.com/kqzQqewnGk

A look at how the UK front pages have covered the riots – from left to right wing, tabloid to broadsheets, the papers call the rioters ‘thugs’ and ‘mobs’ noting the distruction and damage they’ve committed in just a short space of time.
