Team GB legend Tom Daley is among the Olympians to have gone viral after testing out the ‘anti-sex beds’ in the Olympic Village ahead of the Paris 2024 Games.

This summer’s Olympics officially get underway on Friday night in the ‘city of love’ but organisers have once again attempted to stop athletes from engaging in any randy activities.

As was the case in Tokyo three years ago, competitors will be sleeping on ‘anti-sex beds’ made of cardboard which in theory can only hold the weight of one person and would collapse otherwise.

It became well-known at past games that some athletes in the Olympic Village engage in sexual relations with each other, with reports claiming that over 200,000 condoms will be made available to them by Durex over the next three weeks.

The 2016 Games in Brazil earned the nickname ‘Raunchy Rio’, and despite the cardboard beds this trend looks set to continue in Paris after Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan demonstrated that the bed frames were a lot stronger than advertised.

In an Instagram video, the pummel horse star said: ‘I’m at the Paris Olympic games and they once again have these cardboard ‘anti-sex beds’.

‘When I tested them the last time, they withstood my testing. Maybe I wasn’t rigorous enough, though.’

The 25-year-old then proceeded to jump around on his bed, performing handstands and front flips, but the frame held firm.

McClenaghan concluded: ‘No, they pass the test. It’s fake, it’s fake news!’

McClenaghan will be hoping to come away from Paris with a first Olympic medal and is in very good standing to take gold, having won two world championships, three European championships and been Commonwealth Games champion on the pommel horse.

But the Irishman wasn’t the only athlete to debunk the myth, with British diving legend Daley conducting his own test.

In a video on TikTok, the 30-year-old showed his followers his room in the village and demonstrated the strength of his own cardboard bed.

After a bit of jumping around, Daley proclaimed: ‘As you can see, they are pretty sturdy.’

Daley is competing in his fifth and possibly final Olympics and will be hoping to add to the one gold and three bronze medals he has won at previous games.
