    July 18, 2024

The Daily Mirror reports on the 40 new laws unveiled in the King’s Speech on Wednesday, as Labour vow to transform the UK. Labour will “take the brakes off Britain” after unveiling its first King’s Speech today, Keir Starmer has said. The Prime Minister announced 40 new laws for the country in the King’s Speech in the state official opening of Parliament this morning. It included plans to get Britain building, stop young people smoking, renationalise the railways, give workers extra rights and take lethal ninja swords off UK streets.

In an exclusive, Alan Hansen who became one of the BBC’s most beloved pundits during a 22-year TV career enjoyed a round of golf near his home on Merseyside as he was pictured for the first time since being released from hospital.

‘The Mirror welcomes Labour’s bold plans set out in the ambitious King’s Speech’

Labour on Wednesday put the country back on the road to recovery with a weighty and ambitious King’s Speech.

After 14 years of Tory drift, mismanagement and decline, Keir Starmer unveiled a legislative programme that will transform the country and transform people’s lives.

There are bold plans to overhaul the planning rules in order to build more homes, the most significant changes to workers’ rights for more than four decades and much-needed reforms to improve public services.

The Mirror particularly welcomes the fact that Labour has set out plans to tackle knife crime and shoplifting, and to force convicted criminals to face their victims in court.

EXCLUSIVE: Alan Hansen pictured for first time since Liverpool hero’s recovery from serious illness

Alan Hansen looks happy and relaxed as he is seen for the first time since his recovery from serious illness.

The 69-year-old Liverpool legend was enjoying a game of golf near his home in Southport on Merseyside. Dressed in a NetJets golf cap, blue fleece and green trousers, he gave a broad grin as he lifted his bag over his shoulder and set off down the fairway.

“He looked great, and was clearly enjoying himself,” said an onlooker. “He was full of smiles.”

The fans’ favourite, who won 23 major honours during a glittering career at Anfield, was rushed into hospital in early June. The Reds released a statement to confirm that he was suffering from a serious illness, without giving details. Fans from around the world sent their best wishes to the former Match of the Day presenter, his wife Janet, and their two children, Adam and Lucy.
