Trending – Trump assassination attempt reaction
Monday’s UK newspapers lead heavily with continued reaction to the assassination attempt of Donald Trump. The former US president, running for re-election, was shot at by a 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate, was shot in the ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one person in the crowd was killed and two others were critically injured. Crooks was shot dead by the US Secret Service.
Since the attempt on the former president, there have been questions over how Crooks was so easily able to scale onto a building roof and shoot at close distance to the president. It appears Crooks was noticed by members of the crowd before the agents and there has been further speculation as to what the motive was. Crooks was a registered Republican but had donated to a liberal cause.
