Daily Mirror – England keep dream alive …. Just

    July 1, 2024

The Daily Mirror writes that England suffered a “near humiliation” by Slovakia at the Euros. Fans were “put through hell”, the paper says.

The paper also offers up its guide to help kick the Tories out of power by explaining the importance of tactical voting.

A picture of missing teenager Jay Slater with his mother Debbie is also on the front, as she says she will not “give up” trying to find her son. It comes after Spanish police said they were calling off their search.

England training ground move pays off for Jude Bellingham and spares country’s blushes

Harry Kane admitted that England practiced the long throw that led to Jude Bellingham’s equaliser in training.

The Real Madrid man kept the Three Lions in the Euros when his overhead kick in the 95th minute forced extra-time against Slovakia, who were on course for a historic victory in Gelsenkirchen. England have struggled to click into gear from an attacking point of view in the tournament.

Prior to Bellingham’s equaliser they hadn’t registered an effort on target but, despite the talent available to them, a long throw proved to be the means by which they scored. Marc Guehi flicked on Kyle Walker’s throw before the Champions League winner converted.

Jay Slater: GoFundMe reaches nearly £50k as ‘devastated’ family vows to continue search

A fundraising page launched to help find missing teenager Jay Slater in Tenerife has topped more than £45,000 as his “heartbroken” family vows to continue to search for him.

Despite the devastating news that the official search for the 19-year-old has been scaled back, the money from well-wishers continues to arrive. Many of the 3,900 gift-givers are worried parents who say they have children of similar age and are “worried sick” and are sending thoughts and prayers to the teen’s mum Debbie Duncan.

Is Britain really better after 14 years of Tory rule? Rishi Sunak’s claim debunked

Rishi Sunak triggered fury when he claimed that Britain is a “better place to live than in 2010” as he desperately tried to defend his party’s record in Government.

The Prime Minister told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that things were better after 14 years of Tory rule. He admitted “the last few years have been difficult” but continued to blame the pandemic and the war in Ukraine for the problems facing ordinary Brits.

Labour’s Jonathan Ashworth said it was “excruciating to watch Rishi Sunak just gloss over the concerns of ordinary working people”. “He just doesn’t understand what the Conservatives have inflicted on voters over the past 14 years,” he added.

If you are someone who reads every perspective of a story, here is a news summary of all of today’s front pages from today’s newspapers; summarised in a 2-minute read

Extra Time as Bellingham comes to the rescue

    Editorial 01 July 2024.

Monday’s front pages are dominated by two stories: the French elections and England’s National Football team.

The French headed to the polls on Sunday and as opinion polls predicted, the far-right National Rally (RN) party swept the first round of voting. The snap French elections have caused chaos in France – with many papers noting that Macron’s decision to call the election, appears to have backfired.

England’s last-16 match also features – with images of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane on most front pages. England put in another poor performance, losing 1-0 to Slovakia before Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick to equalise – in the 95th minute. Captain Harry Kane gave England the lead just one minute into extra time.

Elsewhere, the papers also leave room for the upcoming UK general election – to be held on Thursday. There’s no surprise in how the papers cover the UK elections with the right-leaning papers warning Labour can’t be trusted on issues like defence, immigration and the economy and the left-leaning papers reporting on the 14 years of hell under the Tories and Labour’s promises of a brighter future.
