LA police open probe into Matthew Perry’s death

The Los Angeles Police Department has announced an investigation into the death of actor Matthew Perry.

Perry, known for his role in the TV sitcom Friends, died in October. Medical officials stated his death resulted from “acute effects of ketamine.”

The investigation aims to determine how Perry obtained the anaesthetic ketamine found in his system.

Drowning was also cited as a contributing factor, and his death was ruled an accident.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed it is working with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the US Postal Inspection Service on the investigation into the 54-year-old’s death.

The progress of the investigation, first reported by TMZ, is unclear, and it is not known who has been interviewed.

Perry was found unresponsive in the pool of his Los Angeles home on October 28 and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The LA County Medical Examiner’s office reported in December that “high levels of ketamine” were found in his blood.

Senior Deputy Medical Examiner Raffi Djabourian added that coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication for opioid use disorder, also contributed to his death.
