There is no bias in the title provided.

From ludicrous adverts depicting tiny rooms for hundreds of pounds to nightmarish landlords that won’t fix the central heating in the dead of winter, the frankly ridiculous stories about renting in London never stop circulating.

But now, the capital has reached new lows as someone is quite literally renting out their garden shed – and to the tune of almost £1,300 per month.

Marketed as an ‘outstanding studio annexe,’ the property sits at the end of the back garden of a semi-detached house in Abbey Wood – in Zone 4.

Inevitably, there isn’t much space. The Rightmove listing shows a small, windowless kitchen, a room that just about fits a double (sofa) bed inside and a tiny bathroom with a shower.

In addition to the £1,299 monthly rent, the deposit is to the tune of £1,614.

At least there’s space to wash your clothes (Picture: Jam Press/Frestons)

You’ll also be sharing the garden with what looks to be a dog kennel, so if you’re allergic, this perhaps might not be for you. (Or, if you’re really desperate for a place, prepare to dose up on the antihistamines).

Reddit users were quick to jump on the story – and the jokes were neverending.

‘Ah yes the large wooden garden where you can sit on your planter and wave to the landlord,’ @JudgeyMcJudgey123 wrote, while @NoGoodDealsWarlock laughed: ‘I wonder how much they’re renting the dog house for.’

‘Having to tell your landlord’s kids to please stop kicking the ball against your shed must be grim,’ added @VillageHorse, and @GraceEllis19 described the listing as ‘dystopian.’

This isn’t the first wild story we’ve heard about a property opportunity in the Big Smoke.

Last month, we heard of a basement area to a ground floor flat in South London being sold off for just £5k – but the new owners weren’t buying the rights to a new house. No, they were expected to get their shovels ready and start digging out their own flat.

To get the latest news from the capital visit Metro.co.uk’s London news hub.

Managed by Auction House London, the organisation described the sale as ‘a development opportunity to create a lower ground floor flat beneath an existing mid terrace house arranged over ground and two upper floors.’

‘The buyer will be required to excavate the area below the ground floor in order to create a new self-contained flat,’ the auctioneers added, noting that the plot is leasehold – and still has 112 years left on the lease.

There’s just about room for a sofa bed (Picture: Jam Press/Frestons)

And, before that, a double roof top space in South Kensington went on the market to the tune of £200,000.

Described by the estate agent as presenting a ‘rare chance to create a bespoke living space or potentially lucrative development,’ any changes are subject to planning and permissions.

Nestled between Queen’s Gate Gardens and Elvaston Place, the rooftops are near the fashionable shopping and museum hotspots of Cromwell Road and Brompton Road, while Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park are both just a stone’s throw away.

So, one thing’s for certain: whether it’s an underground flat you have to dig yourself, a double roof space or a £1,300 per month glorified shed, London never stops surprising us.
