Daily Mirror – Five Babies Die: Whooping Cough Warning
The Daily Mirror says five babies have died amid a surge in the number of cases of whooping cough. More than 2,700 cases of whooping cough – also known as pertussis – have been reported across England so far in 2024. That’s more than three times the amount recorded in the whole of last year. The worrying new figures released by the UK Heath Security Agency (UKHSA) show there were 2,793 cases reported to the end of March. This is compared with the 858 cases for the whole of 2023. The UKHSA confirmed that between January and the end of March, there have also been five infant deaths.
