Mayor Advocates for Increased Schooling Options in Copenhagen to Enhance Employment and Integration

Copenhagen’s Employment and Integration Mayor Jens-Krisitian Lütken is advocating for the establishment of more privatskoler (private schools) and friskoler (free schools) in the new neighborhoods of Nordhavn, Jernbanebyen, and Østhavnen. Lütken has noted a growing demand for independent schooling options among Copenhageners, highlighting the need for more diverse educational choices in the city.

In an interview with Altinget, Lütken emphasized that while folkeskoler (public schools) have traditionally been the dominant choice for families in Copenhagen, there is a shift towards seeking alternative schooling options. By calling for the expansion of private and free schools in these new neighborhoods, Lütken aims to provide parents and students with more options that cater to their individual needs and preferences.

The move to increase the availability of private and free schools in Copenhagen reflects a broader trend towards educational diversity and choice in the city. As the demand for alternative schooling options continues to grow, Lütken’s proposal seeks to ensure that families in Copenhagen have access to a wide range of educational opportunities.
