Top UN court orders Israel to allow food and medical aid into Gaza

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called the case “a vital step in the global effort to hold Israel accountable for perpetrating genocide.”

Top UN court orders Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza by allowing more aid in as famine looms

The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the United Nations’ highest judicial body, has ordered Israel to take measures to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, including opening more land crossings to allow food, water, fuel and other supplies into the war-ravaged enclave.

It comes amid warnings of a looming manmade famine if immediate measures aren’t taken.

In a unanimous ruling, the ICJ emphasised that Israel must take immediate action to permit the “unhindered provision” of essential services and humanitarian aid, which are urgently required.

This decision comes in response to dire warnings that Gaza could face famine within a matter of weeks.

Israel has strongly rejected the claims that they are blocking aid from entering Gaza. They say Hamas is to blame for the current situation in Gaza and for starting the war.

The latest ruling by the court in The Hague comes after South Africa asked it to bolster an order issued to Israel in January to take all measures to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza.

Although orders issued by the ICJ are legally binding, the court lacks the power to enforce them. The UN Security Council is the only UN body which can introduce measures to try and ensure compliance.

    Famine looms in Gaza

A video posted on X (TRT World), shows as famine looms in Gaza, Palestinians are resorting to eating grass to survive as Israel continues to block food from entering.

Gaza could face a man-made famine in just a few weeks if food is not immediately delivered.
