    Was Ed responsible? (Picture: ITV)

Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) had his life put in danger during Wednesday’s (January 23) episode of Coronation Street as he became trapped in a fire.

Michael’s dad, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges), had been staying with Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) following the reveal he had relapsed and started gambling again.

Things went from bad to worse for Ed this week, as bailiffs arrived at the Bailey household and said they would need to fix Ed’s debts by taking money or belongings from their home.

Tonight, Ed told Dee-Dee that he’ll be back on his feet soon because Gary (Mikey North) is thinking about buying the yard.

Sadly though, Gary met up with Ed and broke the news that he wasn’t going to go through with their deal.

After being informed by his friend that he couldn’t have a spare room at his house, Ed was at rock bottom and decided to sleep at the yard.

A few hours later, Michael wandered past and found the building on fire.

Believing his dad to be inside, Michael rushed in, but ended up getting trapped himself when the size of the flames increased.

It turned out that Ed had just popped out for some food so when he returned, he was horrified to see the flames and smoke pouring from the yard.

As Damon (Ciaran Griffiths) help, Ed realised someone was shouting from indoors.

Racing up the steps, Ed broke open the door and spotted Michael inside.

Fortunately, after being checked over at hospital, Michael was fine and just suffered smoke inhalation. The ordeal terrified father and son but because Ed was seen as his hero, Michael decided he could move back home.

Back at the Baileys, as Ed chatted to Dee-Dee about how he could finally see a way forward, he remained unaware Craig (Colson Smith) had expressed his concerns to DS Swain (Vicky Myers).

With knowledge that Ed has a gambling problem, and the fact the building stunk of white spirit, Craig couldn’t help wonder if the fire happened as part of a dodgy insurance job.

But did Ed’s actions put Michael’s life in danger, and will he face the consequences if so?

Or was it simply a mistake?
