Sandi Toksvig stopped presenting Great British Bake Off after the 2019 series following three years at the helm, and she’s now been very honest about why she left.
Kim Cattrall once said: ‘I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself,’ and Sandi it seems is also of a similar school of thought.
The 65-year-old comedian began to get bored in the tent, and she felt that was her sign that the time was right to move on to other projects.
‘To be honest, I left Bake Off because I stopped having fun,’ Sandi confessed.
Like Paul Hollywood critiquing technical challenges, Sandi didn’t hold back.
She added to Radio Times: ‘I was literally standing there watching meringues dry and thinking, “Oh my God, my brain is atrophying.”’

Since her exit from the series, Sandi who once tried to convince Suranne Jones to participate, hasn’t been tuning in to watch the Channel 4 show and puts it down to not liking cake.
However, she added: ‘If somebody makes The Great British Cheese Off, I’m in.’ This sounds like something Channel 5 in particular would be all over.
The series is now hosted by Alison Hammond (who replaced Sandi’s replacement Matt Lucas) and Noel Fielding, with Paul still judging everyone’s bakes alongside Dame Prue Leith.
Sandi may not be regularly tuning in, as she’s too busy marvelling over camemberts, but the series is still going strong and wrapped up their 14th season last year, with Matty Edgell taking the win.

During the interview, the QI host also shared her disappointment that more shows don’t have female hosts.
‘I would still like to see more women in charge of shows. …And let’s not even start on chat show hosts. Where are the female chat show hosts?’ she asked.
The lack of female hosts in the schedule was recently highlighted by comedy writer Laura Claxton on X, formerly Twitter.

Commenting on ITV’s Saturday line-up she wrote: ‘Tonight ITV have got 2 men hosting a quiz, followed by 2 men going on holiday, followed by 2 men going on holiday to eat some food, followed by a documentary about a woman being murdered.’
She asked broadcasters to ‘let women be silly’ and added: ‘Don’t let broadcasters continue to focus women’s representation on TV around trauma.’
