Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) in Coronation Street has confirmed to Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) that he will help him end his life when the time comes.
Last week, Paul – who has motor neurone disease – told Todd (Gareth Pierce) that he still wants to choose the moment he dies as he’s terrified about becoming a hostage inside his own body.
In Tuesday’s (January 9) episode of the ITV soap, the difficult conversation continued as Todd tried to tell Paul he didn’t need to make this choice.
Ultimately though, he wasn’t going to change his mind. Todd outright refused to help Paul, so he took off to the doctors to try and source from morphine from Doctor Gaddas.

Paul alluded to wanting some painkillers, but Doctor Gaddas said the only thing she could do was recommend he takes some ibuprofen.
Back at the flat, after Abi (Sally Carman) overheard Paul’s conversation with Todd, she was invited over. Soon enough, Paul was asking Abi to get him some drugs he could use to end his life.
A heartbroken Abi told Paul that she wasn’t going to help because she didn’t want to play a part in Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) having her son taken from her. However, after mulling over the conversation, Abi headed out and got in contact with a dealer called Dean.

She returned and handed the benzos over to Paul but unbeknownst to her, Cassie (Claire Sweeney) had followed Abi and was already telling Kevin (Michael Le Vell) she spotted her buying drugs.
As a result of this, Abi told Kevin the truth so he headed over to see Paul.
Kevin explained to Paul that he can’t ask Abi to get him drugs anymore, but the conversation happened in front of Billy – who had no idea about Paul’s assisted dying plan.
After discovering the truth, an angry and heartbroken Billy threw Todd out and then confronted Paul. Billy believes that a person’s life is sacred and given as a gift from God – he wasn’t going to go against that and be complicit in Paul’s request.

The scenes between Billy and Paul were incredibly emotional and tense. The back and forth continued for a little while, with Billy highlighting the meaning of life and wanting to embrace every single minute he has left with his partner, while Paul told him that he’s entitled to a choice, and doesn’t want to live when his MND has completely taken over him.
Paul apologised but said to Billy he wants to say ‘enough is enough’ when the time comes, and the only way he can guarantee it is to ‘end things’ while he still can.
