Another new source claims that the PS5 Pro will launch next year, but with new DLSS tech made by Sony themselves.
It’s only a few weeks ago that the PlayStation 5 Slim console hit the market, after a long period of rumours speculating about its release.
The Slim is no more or less powerful than the original model but for months there have been rumours of a PS5 Pro, a mid-generation upgrade that would be more powerful – and now another new source has suggested that the console is definitely on the way.
Leaker Jeff Grubb claims that the PS5 Pro will likely arrive in September 2024, and it includes a secret ingredient that could help to make games look even better.
‘That PS5 Pro leak is almost certainly real based on what I’ve heard now, and obviously I’m not the only one out there saying that, but I can throw my ‘confirm, confirm, confirm’ into the ring for everybody,’ said Grubb in a new podcast.
Not only is he sure the PS5 Pro is on its way, Grubb says the console will come with its own DLSS solution which could improve resolution and frame rate at a fraction of the usual cost in terms of processing power.
‘The big thing here, like the big feature that this system will support, is Sony’s own proprietary DLSS-like solution, where they use their own machine learning to improve images so they can run things at a really high resolution and really high frame rate, and they would include their own hardware in the PS5 Pro to do this.
‘That’s where like the 2x hardware ray-tracing acceleration comes into place, but they would be able to do even more than just better hardware ray-tracing. So yeah, this thing is probably happening,’ Grubb says on his YouTube channel.
It’s no surprise that Sony would produce a PS5 Pro, but this is the first anyone has said anything about propriety DLSS technology, with most hardware manufacturers relying on Nvidia for that tech.

Most rumours up till now have pointed at a 2024 release for the PS5 Pro. Until now, no one has been specific about a release date or month but Sony almost always releases new hardware in the autumn.
Despite regular rumours about the PS5 Pro, there’s been no suggestion that there will be an equivalent for the Xbox Series X/S. Whether Microsoft really has no plans for such an upgrade, or is just better at keeping its secrets, is not yet clear.
