Scobie discusses published names in Dutch version of Endgame
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were likely aware that their friends and sources close to them were speaking to Omid Scobie ahead of the publication of Endgame, as it seems “hard to believe” they weren’t, according to royal experts.
Guests on last Friday’s True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat discussed the ongoing controversy surrounding the book, which gives a damning verdict on many senior members of the Royal Family.
Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not confirmed any relationship with Mr Scobie and the author has denied he is “pals” with Meghan, she was previously forced to admit there had been a degree of collaboration with him for his 2020 book Finding Freedom.
Commenting on Endgame, the Sunday Times royal editor Roya Nikkhah said: “By his own admission in the prologue, [Omid Scobie] talks about the fact that obviously you’d expect him as a journalist and a writer to speak to people close to Harry and Meghan, and he says he’s spoken to people close to Harry and Meghan.
“Harry and Meghan do like to control the information that goes out, it’s hard to believe you’d be getting information from very close friends of theirs without them knowing.”

Former royal press secretary Ailsa Anderson explained how the Royal Family may have felt nervous about the book’s contents, even though much of the backlash has been made against the author himself.
She told the Royal Beat: “It’s the fear of the unknown…you don’t know what he is going to say in it if he hasn’t given any indication about what he was going to write, or which avenues he was going to go down.
“And also, it comes at a time when we have COP in Dubai when the King wants to make a statement about something really important and this [book] is looming on the horizon, like a fog taking away the sunshine.

“I wonder whether Omid went to Buckingham Palace or Kensington Place and how much influence they had. Presumably none at all.”
The royals have been putting on a brave face since the publication of Endgame, however it failed to shift more than 6,500 copies in its first week of being on sale in the UK.
Last Friday many senior members of the Firm attended Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with Prince Louis making his debut appearance at the service.

The family will be all together again for Christmas at Sandringham this year, with some speculating that Harry and Meghan could join them for the first time since 2018.
Following a warm phone call between the two families for the King’s 75th birthday last month, it seemed they had made plans to talk more and even spend more time together.
However the publication of Endgame a couple of weeks ago seems to have deteriorated the relationship yet again, with the Sussexes likely to spend another Christmas in California.
