Sunday’s newspapers lead on the latest from the Middle East and the tabloids continue their coverage of the latest royal gossip.
Middle East war resumes
The Observer says Israeli politicians and generals believe that taking out the top Hamas commanders will give the “best chance” of “forcing the collapse” of the organisation in Gaza. The paper says critics believe the strategy will do little to reduce the high cost of civilian lives in the campaign so far.
The Sunday Express looks at Israel resuming its offensive in Gaza. The paper says “hell on Earth has returned” and Israeli sources warn that it could be another year before Hamas is dismantled.
Covid inquiry
The Sunday Telegraph reports Labour Sir Keir Starmer has launched what the paper calls an “explicit appeal” to Tory voters to switch to Labour by praising Maggie Thatcher.
The Observer reports on relatives who lost loved ones during the Covid pandemic. The paper says they are planning to greet Boris Johnson as he arrives to give evidence at the Covid inquiry this week with photographs of people who died.
The Express says the former PM is set to defend his record when he appears before the inquiry.
Royal scandals
The Sunday Mirror reports that the royals are united and plan to “rise above” the race row since the publication of the book Endgame.
The Sunday Telegraph says there will be high-level discussions this week between the royal households.
The Sunday Times says one of Prince Harry’s oldest friends – and the godfather to his son Archie, has not invited Harry to his wedding due to the ongoing family feud.
The Mail on Sunday calls it a “shock snub”. The paper goes on to say the Duke of Westminster wants to avoid “drama”.

The Observer – Israel ‘using Hamas prisoners to track down terror chief’
Israel is using intelligence gleaned from hundreds of Hamas prisoners to find and kill top commanders, The Observer reports.
The paper also reports relatives who lost loved ones during the pandemic are planning to greet Boris Johnson as he arrives to give evidence at the Covid Inquiry this week with photographs of those who died. The paper says they want to confront the former prime minister about what they describe as his “failings” during the health crisis.
Sunday Mirror – Royals unite on race row
Several of Sunday’s papers have continued to cover the royal race row, after the names of King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were mistakenly included in the Dutch edition of Omid Scobie’s book, Endgame.
The Daily Mirror says senior royals are planning to unite and “rise above” the race row ignited by a new book about the monarchy, according to the paper, saying it is “business as usual” for the “firm”.
The Independent – ‘Doomed to fail’ Tory childcare promise in tatters
Thousands of nurseries have shut their doors because of a staffing crisis – and according to The Independent, Jeremy Hunt’s flagship budget pledge to expand free childcare for British families is “doomed to fail”.
The front page features a large image of US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Biden administration pledges $3bn for climate.
The front page also reports on the EURO 2024 draw – as England drew a fairly nice pot whilst Scotland face a mountain.
The Sunday Telegraph-Starmer piles praise on Thatcher to woo Right
The Sunday Telegraph’s lead story carries comments from Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, who heaps praise on former Tory PM Margaret Thatcher for “setting loose our natural entrepreneurialism”. The Telegraph describes his comments as “his most audacious attempt to woo centre-right support”.
The front page features an image of RAF planes saying the planes will be heading to the Middle East to hunt for Gaza hostages.
The Sunday Times – Rwanda’s extra £15m to seal migration deal
The Sunday Times’s lead story says Rishi Sunak has agreed to release a further £15m to Rwanda to save his failed asylum plan, which was ruled unlawful last month. The extra money will pay for more staff, the paper says.
