Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur is set to miss around two months after he picked up an ankle injury in last week’s defeat to Aston Villa.
Bentancur was making his first start for Tottenham for nine months but was withdrawn after just half an hour following a tackle from Matty Cash.
Initial reports had suggested the central midfielder had teared an ankle ligament and Postecoglou has now confirmed that the Uruguayan will join Spurs’ ever-growing list of injured players,
‘He’ll probably miss a fair chunk of time between now and the New Year,’ the Tottenham boss confirmed.
‘It’s probably a couple of months for him to get back, which is disappointing for him because we all know and have witnessed how hard he has worked to get back.
‘It’s disappointing for him. I kind of saw it on the day and the outcome wasn’t great. He got back playing for his country, he got his first start and he started awfully well for us. For him personally, everyone is fairly gutted but he is such a positive guy.
‘He can’t wait to get cracking again and I’m in no doubt we will see him back as soon as possible.’
Pape Sarr is also set for a spell on the sidelines (Picture: Getty)
The north London club now have nine first-team players on the sidelines as they prepare for their tough weekend clash against Manchester City.
Yves Bissouma will be available once again after serving his one-game suspension, but Postecoglou will be without his other key central midfielder Pape Sarr who hasn’t recovered from an injury he picked up during the previous international break.

‘Richarlison is probably the closest [to returning] out of the ones who have been injured; we’re looking to hopefully get him involved in training tomorrow. We’ll see how he is because he’s missed a fair bit but he’s done his rehab well and feels good.
‘Pape Sarr is probably a little bit behind him – we’ll see how he goes but he’ll miss City. The rest of them, we won’t see until the new year.’
