A former Big Brother winner has revealed she has been through a ‘nightmare’ in recent months after her son was hospitalised.
The reality star has set up an online fundraiser pleading with people to contribute towards the financial costs, and has already raised more than €10,000 (£8,764).
In 2003, Jun Song was crowned the winner of the fourth series of Big Brother in the US.
Over the years, she has continued to update fans on her life, with her Instagram bio outlining that she currently lives in Ghent, Belgium.
In a new post uploaded X (formerly Twitter), she explained why she’s been absent from social media as of late, as her son Noah ‘fell incredibly ill’ in October.
Writing on her GoFundMe page, she said: ‘October and November 2023 have been what nightmares are made of, literally, for me and Noah. And some of you already know this.
‘For those of you who don’t, Noah fell incredibly ill in late October. We all thought it was just the flu. But it turned out to be mycoplasma pneumonia that evolved into bacterial meningitis when the mycoplasma traveled to his brain.’
Song recalled how watching her son lose consciousness while lying in the children’s ICU ‘was some of the slowest hours of my life I ever lived through’.
‘Not knowing when he’d wake up, or if he’d wake up at all, and not knowing if he’d wake up with brain damage. I told myself in my head, to prepare for it all. But in my heart, there was only dull dreadful pain,’ she stated.
The Big Brother star outlined how it took 11 days ‘to get him to a state where he could function somewhat normally’, with the young boy able to do things such as eat solid food and walk to the bathroom, which gave her ‘hope’.
‘And now my hope is that I can reach out to those who might be able to help us get through this next phase of this journey of recovery and help me in any way to manage the financial burdens of quantifying 11 days of a 20% co-pay of what’s not been covered by insurance for each day and paying for this nightmare that’s passed, and the long recovery that is to come,’ she wrote.
In an update posted on the fundraising page, Song revealed that donations had been paused because their goal had been reached, as she expressed her gratitude to those who had shown their support.
Several people reshared her post on X, with former Big Brother winner Taylor Hale replying: ‘I’m so sorry to hear this, Jun. Sending you and Noah all the love and support.’
Another star from the show, Kathryn Dunn, added: ‘hey bb fam, @JunDishes and her son noah could use some of our help! please donate if you can❤️.’
