Tanisha Gorey will soon be used to saving lives as trainee paramedic Asha Alahan in Coronation Street – and she was quick to act when confronted with a real-life emergency.
Asha has put her paramedic career ahead of family life lately, irritating girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).
But some of Asha’s medical skills have clearly rubbed off on Tanisha, who was visiting her grandparents house when the dramatic incident happened.
‘It was really unfortunate,’ says Tanisha. ‘One of my grandparents’ neighbours collapsed in the middle of the road.’
Tanisha was among those who rushed to help the woman. ‘We thought she was having a seizure.’
Quick-thinking Tanisha knew what to do, helping to take care of the patient and making sure they were safe while waiting for an ambulance.
When the paramedics arrived, Tanisha made sure they were fully briefed on exactly what had happened.

‘The paramedic asked me if I was in the medical field, or medically trained, adding: “You”ve just handed over to me like a medical student would”,’ smiles Tanisha.
‘I said, “I have nothing to do with it whatsoever. I pretend for a living!”
‘I’m not squeamish when it comes to bodily fluids. My mum is in the healthcare profession so I grew up hearing all kinds of stories.’
But it wasn’t just her mum’s stories and experience on Coronation Street that helped in the medical emergency – as Tanisha confessed to the paramedic.

In November last year, Grey’s Anatomy bid a heartfelt farewell to Dr Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) – the doctor at the centre of the series from its beginning in 2005 up until midway through the 19th season.
‘I was really embarassed to tell him about Grey’s Anatomy, but that’s genuinely why,’ Tanisha adds.

With a rocky road ahead for Asha and Nina’s relationship, Tanisha is keen for the couple to come through it together.
‘Mollie and I get so many messages about: “It’s given me the courage to come out to my parents”…and that’s when we really felt we’d done something. I really don’t want them to break up because I love them being together.’
