Motorcyclist disqualified after filming himself doing wheelies and speeding at 150mph

A motorcyclist who pulled a wheelie and sped at 150mph has been disqualified from driving after his antics were caught on camera… by himself.

Jack Godfrey was slapped with a one-year ban for his reckless driving through Essex thanks to video evidence filmed on his own bike-mounted camera.

The 24-year-old from Basildon was followed by police after they noticed the letters on his registration plate were too small.

While tracking Godfrey, officers watched him drive at high speed and undertake before they eventually pulled him over on the A130 in Rettendon on July 15 this year.

During the stop, an officer noticed the camera fitted to the bike and seized the memory card, suspecting that it had captured Godfrey’s erratic driving.

When police reviewed the video, they were able to view journeys he had taken earlier that day, which also showed how he almost crashed into a roundabout.

Shocking footage showed Godfrey riding along a number of roads at speeds estimated to be as high as 150mph while overtaking several vehicles and even performing a wheelie as other motorists passed in the opposite direction.

Godfrey admitted to dangerous driving and was sentenced to a one-year driving ban at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on November 3.

He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, re-sit his driving test and pay £269 worth of fines and costs.

PC Danny Wheeler, who led the investigation, said: ‘There is no doubt that the rider drove in a dangerous manner that day, using the public roads of Chelmsford as a racetrack with no consideration for himself and the safety of other road users.

‘At one point, he nearly collided into a roundabout.

‘The footage was horrific, so much so that during interview, the rider admitted that even he was shocked by it and admitted he’d been foolish.’

The court ordered no separate penalty for two other charges relating to the unlawful registration plate, which did not conform with DVLA regulations.

Earlier this year, a Porsche driver was caught speeding at more than twice the legal limit at 162mph.
