Gaza hospitals stopping some services as UN warns fuel runs out tonight

Fuel is running out in Gaza, as hospitals are stopping all but emergency services, according to a BBC correspondent.

The United Nations (UN) – the biggest aid provider in Gaza – says its work will have to stop tonight if it doesn’t get fresh supplies.

Israel is blocking the delivery of supplies to Gaza and is accusing Hamas of stockpiling hundreds of thousands of litres.

Another eight aid lorries carrying food, water and medicine crossed from Egypt into Gaza last night – but aid agencies say at least 100 lorries a day are needed.

According to the Hamas-run government in Gaza, they say 80 people were killed by overnight Israeli air strikes.

Israel claims to be targeting Hamas’s infrastructure, including roadblocks that were allegedly set up to stop civilians evacuating the northern Gaza Strip.

Since the initial Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October, almost 5,800 people have been killed in retaliatory strikes by Israel.

More than 1,400 people were killed in the initial attacks on Israel and more than 200 remain hostages in Hamas’s network of underground tunnels.
