Biden seeking a landmark deal in the Middle East

The administration of US President Joe Biden seeking a landmark deal in the Middle East. Biden is pushing for a landmark deal that could reorder the Middle East.

The administration had pressured the Kingdom to invite the Israeli delegation to the Kingdom, as it was in doubt before the summit.

The delegation from Israel attended the UNESCO Extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee at the al-Murabba Palace in Riyadh on September 11, 2023.

Now the Israeli communications minister is on a landmark official visit to Riyadh amid steps towards normalisation relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh is bargaining hard for security guarantees from Washington and wants to push for Palestinian rights, as well as assistance with a civilian nuclear program that would have uranium enrichment capacity.

Israeli Walla outlet reported on Sunday that the Israel Defense Forces are studying the range of ramifications for the country on a military level should a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia indeed be achieved.

However, Israel refuses to discuss any issues regarding Palestine, as it sees them as internal domestic issues.

The Palestinians have warned that they must be taken into account in any deal, and it is unclear what concessions Israel might be willing to make.

If Saudi Arabia did normalise relations with Israel without an absolute guarantee for the sanctity and safety of Palestine, they would be an uproar in the Islamic world.

Karhi is now the second Israeli minister to publicly travel to the kingdom after last week’s visit by Tourism Minister Haim Katz, and the third by an official Israeli delegation in the last three months.

Last week the White House said Saudi Arabia and Israel were moving towards the outline of a deal.

“All sides have hammered out, I think, a basic framework for what, you know, what we might be able to drive at,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

His comments came on the heels of a visit to Riyadh by Israeli Tourism Minister Haim Katz, who attended a United Nations World Tourism Organization event, becoming the first Israeli minister to head an official delegation to the kingdom.
