Sir Elton John made sure to thank his fans as he kicked off his long-awaited Glastonbury set on the Pyramid stage on Sunday.
The 76-year-old told the crowd after playing two songs back-to-back: ‘It’s a very special and emotional night because it may be my last UK show ever.’
He added: ‘I better play well and entertain you, you’ve been standing there for so long. I appreciate the outfits and everything.’
Festival-goers have been treated to incredible sets from headliners and surprise acts alike across the festival lineup, from Arctic Monkeys and Foo Fighters to Lizzo and Guns N’ Roses.
The last day was another epic day, with a wide range of musical acts including Blondie, War On Drugs, Queens Of The Stone Age and many more all taking to the stages across Worthy Farm’s map.
Of course, Sir Elton’s set is one of the weekend’s most anticipated.

There has been chatter for some time over his set, with whispers of Britney Spears being his star Glastonbury guest, but it turns out there will be more than just one.
While everyone including Sir Elton’s husband David Furnish has kept shtum, Emily Eavis, who runs the festival, has teased what we can expect from the Rocket Man hitmaker.

‘We have so many artists playing here and often we don’t have much direct contact. But Elton has been very involved and we’ve worked really closely. He’s so excited and engaged with what Glastonbury is,’ she told Glastonbury Free Press.
She added: ‘He’s been carving out a set that’s going to be completely unique to Glastonbury. I love his love for doing that. I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s going to be amazing.’
The Tiny Dancer musician will give a historic performance to close the 2023 festival tonight with a show that has been billed as the final UK gig of his farewell tour.
