With all the pomp and ceremony, the lavish spectacular display of the Coronation of King Charles will be a pretty explosive event.

The upcoming coronation, held on May 6th, will be the first of its kind since Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, and is expected to be significantly distinct. According to the palace, it will acknowledge the monarch’s current role and outlook towards the future, while still adhering to time-honoured traditions and grand ceremonial displays.

The King’s Procession will start at 10.20 am with the ceremony at Westminster Abbey at 11am, followed by the Royal flypast at 14.15pm.

But whether you’re intending to save the date to watch at home or intend to be out and about, throughout the bank holiday weekend you may want to join a good old-fashioned knees up, Corrie-inspired naturally.

We’ve found the best hotspots around town from May 5th-7th where there will cocktails, partying, food, cabaret and more.

Grab your dancing shoes and get going with the best events this weekend…

They say ‘Laughter is brightest in the place where the food is’ and if you have a penchant for Dim Sum with a dash of comedy then look no further than the Courtesan.

You will be wined and dined with a dazzling display of goodies on the menu including Chicken cress dumplings, teriyaki tofu and deep-fried crab.

Queen Consort and cabaret emcee sensation, Camilla Parker Lols, aka Giddy Heights will tantalise and tease with a host of Royal comedy, songs and burlesque, and even arrives straight from the countryside adorned in her favourite jodhpurs and riding crop. Proper!

Watch the Big Ben illumination display

Word on the street (O.K the Google reviews) is that this is the local politician’s favourite party hang out, so if you want to watch the Big Ben Illumination display then you may be rubbing shoulders with well-known cabinet members at the same time.

From around 8:30 pm to 11 pm every night until Sunday, there will be spectacular projections displayed on the 160-year-old tower.

Displayed on the side of Big Ben will be roses, the national flower of England, with Scotland’s national emblem, the thistle. This will be accompanied by daffodils, the national flower of Wales, and finally, the shamrock is the national symbol of Ireland which is closely associated with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The tavern is the closest to Big Ben by 466 feet, and serves hearty meals such as fish and chips and filling pies. We recommend getting a window seat.

The impressive banners and garlands ensemble was designed by Oliver Messel, a theatre designer with a flair for dramatic styles

But the pièce de résistance? They have a replica royal cypher, hung above the grand entrance for all to see.

From Friday 5 to Monday 8 May 2023, you’ll be able to indulge in an extra-special afternoon tea while the Vesper Bar will be serving a King-inspired martini cocktail.

It’s the perfect finishing touch to this truly regal getup.
