Frank Lampard appointed Chelsea manager until end of season
Frank Lampard has been appointed as Chelsea’s manager until the end of the season, just two years after the club sacked him.
Frank Lampard is a Chelsea legend, in his football playing days he was a Chelsea midfielder and in 2019 returned to the club for his first stint as manager. He was sacked in 2021 under Roman Abramovich and went on to manage Everton – before being sacked recently. He’s now back as Chelsea’s boss but only until the end of the season.
His appointment as interim manager comes after the shock sacking of Graham Potter who had a poor run of games.
The club’s co-owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, stated that Lampard was chosen to provide the club and its fans with a clear and stable plan for the rest of the season.
Chelsea is currently 11th in the Premier League and 14 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. Despite the poor season, they are through to the Champions League quarter-finals and face Real Madrid in the first leg on Wednesday.
During his time as Chelsea manager, Lampard led the Blues to a fourth-place finish and the FA Cup final in his first season. But the previous owner Roman Abramovich sacked him when the club was ninth in the Premier League, and was failing to repeat his earlier success with the club. He had, at the time of being sacked, only won two in eight games.
Frank Lampard was sacked recently after a poor spell with Everton, he had suffered nine defeats in 12 Premier League games during the season.
