Kentucky helicopter crash: Up to 9 people feared dead after military aircraft crash

Two US Army helicopters have crashed in Kentucky, with a number of people believed to be dead.

The state’s Governor, Andy Beshear, said it was “tough news” with “early reports of a helicopter crash and fatalities are expected”.

Local news reports say the incident happened at about 21:35 local time (01:35 GMT), and as many as nine people may have been killed.

Local military confirmed their helicopters were involved in the crash.

The incident occurred in the Trigg County region, near the expansive Fort Campbell military base.

According to a spokesperson from Fort Campbell, two HH60 Blackhawk helicopters crashed during a routine training mission, and the status of the crew members is currently unknown.

The spokesperson stated that the focus of the command is on providing care to the service members and their families.

The incident is currently being investigated, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

The 101st Airborne Division, the only air assault division in the US Army, is responsible for the involved helicopters and has been deployed to conflict zones across the world.
