The large country estate that was the scene of the Murdaugh family murders in 2021 was sold for $2.6million.
Moselle, the 1,700-acre farm and hunting lodge property owned by disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh, was finally sold. The proceeds will go to cover Murdaugh’s outstanding legal fees.
Murdaugh, a member of a prominent South Carolina legal dynasty and the son of a former prosecutor, was convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and son, Paul Murdaugh, in 2021. He was sentenced to life in prison on March 3.
Additionally, Murdaugh faces 99 charges of financial crimes after allegedly defrauding his clients and law partners for up to $7million. These include charges of insurance fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering.

The new owners, James Ayer and Jeffrey Godley, have not announced what their plans are for the the massive property in Colleton County, South Carolina.
After their purchase, the new owners auctioned off items found in the property, including a couch, the Murdaugh family’s firearms collection, boxes full of ammunition, and hunting gear marked with the name ‘Alex.’
The property, which Alex Murdaugh allegedly owed over $2million in mortgage payments on, was put on the market by Crosby Land Company after his trial for $3.9million.

The listing advertised the property’s 2.5 mile access to the Salkehatchie River for freshwater fishing and kayaking, as well as ‘abundant deer, turkey, and waterfowl populations’ for hunting.
The property included the family’s vacation home, a 5,275-square foot house with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, originally built in 2011.
It also promoted the lodge’s 12-run dog kennel facility – which is also where Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were found dead from gunshot wounds.
Throughout the trial, Murdaugh has insisted on his innocence, despite confessing to most of the financial crimes. His attorneys appealed his sentence on March 9, just days after his sentencing.
