Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora – the screenshots are still online at the time of writing but don’t be shocked if Ubisoft takes them down (pic: Ubisoft)
After months of silence, new screenshots for Ubisoft’s Avatar game have been shared but not from Ubisoft itself.
Following a fancy cinematic trailer in 2021, Ubisoft hasn’t really shared any further details about its new Avatar game, Frontiers Of Pandora.
You might’ve thought Ubisoft would’ve coincided its launch with 2022’s Avatar: The Way Of Water for the cross promotion potential. However, the publisher admitted that the game had to be delayed (again) until the 2024 fiscal year, which is April 2023 to March 2024.
Despite the possibility of a 2023 launch, Ubisoft remains schtum on the matter. However, a pair of in-game screenshots have found their way online, and the source is promising to share proper gameplay footage soon.
The screenshots certainly look legitimate and come from a leaker known only as Script on Twitter.
They have a reputation for accurately leaking information regarding Rainbow Six Siege and its updates, though they’ve expanded out into other Ubisoft games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
We can’t share the leaked screenshots ourselves for legal reasons but one of them depicts first person gameplay, with the Na’vi player character and firing a gun at a large Titanfall looking mech.
That’s not something Na’vi usually do in the films, which suggests you’re probably playing as an avatar, not one of the natives themselves. Except Ubisoft says you will be playing as the Na’vi, so perhaps the game shows them getting a little more high tech than usual.
While Frontiers Of Pandora has always been described as a first person, open world action adventure, this is the first glimpse of any actual shooter elements.
Script posits that the game will always be in first person and, alongside a second screenshot, says that they will also post gameplay soon. Assuming Ubisoft doesn’t get to them first.
More: Gaming
This comes less than a week after Script leaked pre-order details for the game. A date wasn’t given but they shared a piece of promo art advertising pre-orders and a DLC pack that adds a couple of cosmetics.
This suggests that Ubisoft is gearing up to make pre-orders available in the near future, which in turn would mean that it’ll have a release date to share as well.
We’ll update the story should Ubisoft issue a statement on the matter and/or if any gameplay footage is shared, officially or otherwise.
