Jenny the donkey, aka the breakout star of The Banshees of Inisherin, made a surprise appearance at the Oscars 2023, melting hearts across the globe in the process.
The adorable wee animal starred alongside best actor nominee Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in Martin McDonagh’s comedy-drama and fast became a fan-favourite.
In scenes that we didn’t have on our bingo sheet for this year’s Academy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel brought Jenny onto the stage during the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Introducing her to the celebrity audience, Kimmel told the crowd: ‘This is Jenny. She is one of the stars of Banshees of Inishern.
‘Not only is Jenny an actor, she’s a certified emotional support donkey. At least that’s what we told the airline to get her on the plane from Ireland.’
He continued: ‘So if you’re feeling upset that you win, or you’re anxious, or maybe you just love mules, feel free to come up and give her a hug.’

Kimmel then turned his attention to Farrell and Gleeson, who both appeared to be completely overcome with joy at seeing their fury friend at the prestigious event.
He continued: ‘And Jenny, I want you to see your friend Colin right there and there’s your friend Brendan, whose finger you ate.’
Fans at home went crazy for Jenny’s appearance, especially given her fate in Banshees of Inisherin.
Taking to social media, one fan wrote: ‘JENNY THE DONKEY!!! night made’ while another added: ‘Give Jenny an award.’
Others couldn’t get over Farrell’s incredible reaction, with one tweeting: ‘Find someone who looks at you the way Colin Farrell looks at Jenny the donkey.’
‘Colin Farrell reacting to Jenny the donkey is the energy I want to bring the everything I do,’ another echoed.

In the Banshees of Inisherin, Jenny is Farrell’s character Pádraic’s treasured pet.
In truly heartbreaking scenes, however, Jenny dies after eating one of Colm’s (played by Gleeson) fingers.
Jenny the donkey was actually played by two donkeys in real life, Jenny and Rosie, who are currently residing away from the spotlight, according to their trainer Megan Hines.
