Luther movie star Andy Serkis was ‘practically passing out’ while having entire body waxed in agonising experience

Andy Serkis has opened up about one of the most painful experiences of his life – having his entire body waxed.

The actor, who is currently starring as villainous tech billionaire David Robey in the new movie Luther: The Fallen Sun, recalled the agonising moment while on The Jonathan Ross Show, explaining the situation went from bad to even worse at the time.

The Lord of the Rings star recalled the physical transformation he had to undergo to play Ian Drury in the 2010 biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, having trained one side of his body due to the punk rock musician contracting polio as a child.

Another aspect of Ian’s appearance that Andy had to take into account was the fact that he ‘had no hair on his body’, he shared on the ITV talk show.

‘He had no hair on his body, so I did have my whole body waxed, which is literally the most painful thing anyone’s ever done to me,’ the 58-year-old said.

While getting a full-body wax was always going to be a wince-worthy experience, it was even more horrendous because the woman who carried out his treatment had never done it before, Andy outlined.

‘The girl who was doing it to me – bless her – it was her first time. She didn’t quite heat the wax up enough,’ he said.

When the time came for Andy to have his chest waxed, he recollected how the beautician had her foot propped up on the bed as she attempted to rip his hair out.

‘I was practically passing out,’ the Andor star stated, adding that he had his entire body waxed in only one session.

‘I was purple from head to toe. A shiny aubergine,’ he quipped.

In several of Andy’s most famous roles, his face isn’t seen, such as when he played Gollum in the Lord of the Rings franchise, Supreme Leader Snoke in the Star Wars movies and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes films.

However, in Luther: The Fallen Sun, he is visible as the dangerous David Robey.

While speaking on Good Morning Britain recently, he admitted that he almost didn’t take the role.

‘When I first read the script, I had to have a shower, it was one of the darkest parts I’ve ever been offered,’ he said.

‘I did almost consider not doing it, because what’s brilliant about Neil Cross and the writing, is he makes the villains in Luther very, very real and around-the-corner, under-the-bed, it’s in our lives.’

The Jonathan Ross Show returns next Saturday on ITV.
