Rishi Sunak demotes Truss allies as reshuffle continues
PM Rishi Sunak has demoted two allies of former PM Liz Truss, as he continues to reshape his cabinet.
Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been demoted from transport secretary to be a minister in the Foreign Office.
Whilst Chris Philp, who was paymaster general, is now a Home Office minister.
PM Sunak has overhauled the top team to remove some key allies of his predecessor and reward some loyal supporters.
But he is also focusing on unity – and kept key figures from across the Tory party, including key members of Liz Truss’s cabinet, in their roles.
Other appointments include:
- Nick Gibb and Robert Halfon as education ministers
- Jesse Norman as a transport minister
- Alex Chalk as a defence minister
- Lucy Frazer as a minister in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities
- Helen Whately as a minister in the Department for Health and Social Care
- George Freeman as a minister in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy
