Tilda Swinton has quit Adam McKay’s adaptation of Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite.
The film scooped four accolades during the 2020 Oscars ceremony, being the first non-English language film to win the best picture prize in the 92-year history of the Academy Awards.
Succession’s McKay is helming the English language limited series, which is set to launch on HBO with six, hour-long episodes.
It was reported that Tilda had joined the cast with Mark Ruffalo in talks to play the male lead.
‘I don’t think I’ll be a part of it, but I’m very happy to be a cheerleader,’ Tilda revealed to Variety.

While it has not yet been announced who will replace her, Tilda has previously worked with Bong before on his films Snowpiercer and Okja, and has previously spoken about her admiration for and friendship with the Korean director, telling WWD: ‘I fell for his cinema long before I met him, but when we met, we very quickly became friends, inside and outside of making work together.
‘It is this, naturally, that makes cooking things up together so enjoyable for me: to be specific, I think we share a glee in amusing each other which makes for a very light working atmosphere.’

HBO’s Parasite spin-off series is set to take place between the two time periods depicted in the original film, with reports that Avengers star Mark has been tipped for the lead role emerging days after the Korean cast and crew’s monumental night at the Oscars two years ago.
Despite refusing to confirm whether any conversations had taken place, Mark seemed pretty keen on the idea, saying: ‘That would be amazing.’

He continued: ‘[Bong’s] amazing. I love him. His speech last night was incredible, he made an amazing movie and I’d be honored to be able to play something in that. It’s so beautiful.
‘You know how it is nowadays, nothing’s done until it’s done but maybe one day. It’d be cool to be a part of.’
Parasite is yet to be given a release date by HBO.
