The cast and crew of Emmerdale celebrated their 50th anniversary with several big wins at the National Television Awards last night, including Best Serial Drama.
Actor Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, took home the award for Serial Drama Performance.
In an interview for Good Morning Britain following his win, Mark spoke about the show’s upcoming 50th birthday episode, describing it as ‘dramatic’ and ‘moving’.
‘We went to a viewing in Leeds and I sat back and I thought, “OK I’m gonna watch my mates now”. The biggest compliment I can give is that I just forgot. My suspension of disbelief – it’s one of the best hours of Emmerdale I’ve ever seen, and it’s so dramatic, it’s really moving.’ He gushed.
‘Honestly, I can’t tell you how strongly I feel about that episode.
‘I’m not gonna say how much I’m in it, but there’s so many storylines that come to a head in that episode, it’s just so brilliantly shot. It’s so cinematic! You can tell I’m really pleased with it. I’m really chuffed with it!’

This year has been big for Mark, with his character Marlon suffering a life-changing stroke.
The storyline has received an abundance of praise and even secured Mark his NTA win.

‘I have absolutely no recollection of what I said at all.’ Mark said of his winning speech.
‘I don’t know if I even spoke in the English language, it’s just these extra words that were just recycled… If it was in order, I feel that was a win in itself really.’
