China starts large-scale military exercises around Taiwan, just hours after America’s Nancy Pelosi left the self-governed island, following a controversial visit that has infuriated Beijing.
State media says the sea and air exercises including live-fire drills in six areas around Taiwan kicked off around noon local time and will continue until the same time on August 7.
China started its military exercises on Tuesday following Pelosi’s arrival and later announced a raft of retaliatory economic measures in response to her visit.
Taiwan says China’s military activity violated United Nations rules, invaded its territorial space and amounted to a blockade of its air and sea.
