Woman guilty of murdering partner’s 18-month daughter Star Hobson
Savannah Brockhill has been found guilty of murdering her partner’s 16-month-old daughter after the child endured months of physical abuse.
Brockhill inflicted “catastrophic” injuries on Star Hobson – the child’s mother has also been convicted of causing or allowing her death.
Star died in hospital in West Yorkshire on 22 September 2020 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Her mother Frankie Smith and Brockhill will be sentenced on Wednesday.
The trial lasted seven weeks and had heard Star had been either punched, kicked or stamped on it the weeks and months before her death.
Star’s great-grandfather, David Fawcett, said the toddler’s death had “torn the family apart”.
“You just can’t believe we’re never going to see her again,” he said.
“It’s the facts of what happened to her as well, that’s killing us. To lose a child, it’s a horrible feeling. But it’s the way we lost Star that’s just horrendous.”
Prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC said Star had “suffered a number of significant injuries at different times”.
The injuries included fractures to the back of her head and her right shin. The latter injury was “caused by forceful twisting.”
Smith was cleared of an alternative manslaughter charge.
