Plymouth shooting: Jake Davison killed five including ‘very young girl’

Police have confirmed the Plymouth mass shooting was carried out by Jake Davison, believed to be 23-years-old, who killed five people including a ‘very young girl’ before turning the gun on himself.

The deadly spree took just six minutes, police have revealed.

Jake Davison was a licensed firearms holder, he shot two women, two men and the girl in the Keyham area of the city on Thursday evening.

It is the worst mass shooting in Britain since 2010.

Police have said the incident is not being treated as terror-related.

Since the shooting, videos online of Davidson speaking about being “beaten down” and “defeated by life” have circulated.

    Plymouth mass shooting

Emergency services were called to Biddick Drive just after 18:00 BST on Thursday. Five people, including Davison, died at the scene and one died later in hospital.

Witnesses described the weapon used as a “pump-action shotgun” but police refused to confirm that at this stage. A firearm was recovered from the scene.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shooting.

In the online videos, since removed by YouTube, 22-year-old Davison said he was socially isolated, struggled to meet women and made references to “incels” – the misogynistic online groups of “involuntary celibate” men, who blame women for their sexual failings and who have been linked to a number of violent acts around the world.

Eyewitness Sharron, who lives nearby and did not want to give her full name, said what happened was “horrendous and so sad”.

“Firstly, there was shouting, followed by gunshots – three possibly four to begin with,” she said.

“This was when the shooter kicked in the door of a house and randomly started shooting. He ran from the house shooting as he ran and proceeded to shoot at a few people in the linear park up from the drive.”

She said the “shooter proceeded along Royal Navy Avenue still shooting”.

    Timeline of the attack:

    • The suspect first killed a woman at an unnamed address in Keyham before moving to Biddick Drive.
    • He then “immediately shot and killed a very young girl” and one of her male relatives, in an attack that was witnessed by other members of the public.
    • Davison then moved further down the road where he shot at two local residents, who received injuries that are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
    • In an adjacent parkland, he shot another man who died at the scene.
    • He then shot a woman in Henderson Place who later died in hospital.
    • Davison then turned the gun on himself, according to witnesses.

    ‘Familial relationship’

Police confirm the first woman Jake Davison killed was known to him – they are investigating whether the pair were related.

It remains unclear if Davison knew the rest of the victims.

“We believe we have an incident that is domestic-related and has spilled out into the street and seen several people within Plymouth losing their lives in an extraordinarily tragic circumstance,” he says.

Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer says he believes the gunman’s first female victim “was known to him” and there is a “familial relationship.”
