Highers results: Universities reject star students as grades soar
The Times says high achievers have been turned away from leading Scottish universities due to huge demand for places after a second year of rampant grade inflation.
A record number of A grades were handed out by teachers who were told to use their professional judgment to assess pupils’ ability as exams were scrapped for the second consecutive year. Nearly half of pupils were awarded an A grade in both Scotland and England, up from less than 30 per cent during a normal year based on exam scores.
