California fires map: Where wildfires are spreading on the US west coast after town of Greenville destroyed
The i says the Dixie Fire is now California’s largest single wildfire in recorded history having burned an area more than twice the size of New York City.
Almost 6,000 firefighters are battling the blaze, which has grown to an area of 302.6 square miles (783.8 km²), according to the authorities. It has destroyed 600 homes and other buildings, along with most of the small community of Greenville.
Thick smoke cleared along the southern edge of the fire on Monday, allowing aircraft to dump water on the flames.
