COVID UK: All 16 & 17-year-olds to be offered jabs
The UK’s vaccine experts have recommended children aged 16 and 17 in the UK should be offered a first dose of the Covid vaccine.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisations have said advice on when a second jab should be offered will come later.
The change in guidance means around 1.4 million teenagers in the UK will be eligible for the vaccine.
It is expected that one dose of the vaccine will give good protection against severe illness and hospitalisation in the age group, according to the JCVI.
The JCVI is a group of independent experts, it will be up to the governments of the UK to decide to take up the advice and put it into action.
England and Wales have already said they will take the advice and expand the rollout to 16 and 17-year-olds.
