UK cuts direct aid to Afghanistan by 78% at same time as withdrawing military support amid Taliban advance

This year the overall development budget has been cut by £4bn, reducing it by around a third, after ministers dropped the commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of GDP on aid.
A large part of Britain’s aid funding is committed to multilateral organisations in the long term, meaning that bilateral donations have been disproportionately affected by the cuts.
